What a novel idea. You mean take the factory air filter off and replace it with a filter from K&N? Do you have to rejet or reprogram the bike for that mod?

Yes I believe you would have to rejet, reason being you would have more air going in and maybe leaning out the gas/air mixture........I hope others read this, they may have ideas on the jets or mapping..........

There is some stuff here on this forum about a rejet for a K&N. I still have the filter but I haven't put it on yet. Just haven't gotten around to doing it.

What I could find relatively quickly. I'm sure there is more, but I think this is all you need.

Most would say, go K&N without changing to a more free-flowing exhaust system would not require a jet or retune change. This is because you have more air going in, but the same as stock going out, therefore you are not breathing any better than stock. Or you can get a tuner for the C50 and get 2 HP or so more with the K&N. But the K&N is a PITA to stuff into the OEM stock aircleaner housing.

The air cleaner would be removed, the pod mounted directly to the carb..........

Most people that have done this have done it with a Unifilter up under the tank rather than a K&N. You can try search terms like"Unifilter" and/or "Naked jugs" <-- remove air filter and PAIR valve, to find more info. I am pretty sure there is a detailed how-to here or on the VR site for doing it.
