No Start

Postby DZimzy » August 16th, 2013, 2:15 am

Hi all, I have a 2004 Volusia that I have just developed a problem with, I drove it to work yesterday morning and it started and ran well like it usually does, when I went to go home at lunch time it wouldn't start, just cranked and cranked.I was able to smell gas at the exhaust so I did not believe it to be a fueling problem. After work I pulled it into the shop and pulled one of the plug wires and it only seems to be getting a very weak spark as well as I tryed feeding it a little bit of ether starting fluid into the airbox to see if she would run on that and it didnt even try to fire. any helpful ideas for a direction I can start heading in would be great, She has always started and ran very well in the two years I have had her until this morning...

Start by charging the battery

You said Volusia? Change the plugs to new set. Volusia plugs crap out at the most inopportune time, like anytime.

I would go with new plugs, what do you mean a weak spark? could be that you need new wires after 10 years , check your coil too

Haha the bug finally grabbed me and on a hunch I ordered a used Igniter assembly off ebay for 20 bucks plus shipping, did not want to pay 380 plus taxes for a new one lol. After installing a new battery since the old one wouldnt take a charge(not surprising after sitting for 2 years through winters drained) She fired right up!!!

Rock on! Mine has been sitting collecting dust since I gave it to my son. I honestly thought he was going to ride it, but I guess he just doesn't have the bug. Glad you got you knees back in the breeze!
