Apes on the Street Glide

Want to talk about motorcycles that you own that aren't a C50 or a Volusia? Here's the spot for that.

Apes on the Street Glide

Postby Doc » October 11th, 2011, 3:28 pm

I once wasn't a believer in apes, but after riding some other bikes, I've discovered that apes are a lot more comfortable and functional than I had thought, so I've decided to throw a set on my 2010 Street Glide. It should be a fun little project. I've got parts coming in this week and might dig into it this Sunday. I'll put some before, during and after shots up when I'm finished. Anyone else done this to their bagger with a fairing?

Oh, by the way, I added a new section to the On Topic area called "Other Brands". I figure if we're not going to talk strictly C50 and Volusia here, there ought to be a place for it. :D

Sounds cool Mike, looking forward to seeing the pics and your thoughts on the ride once installed.

I was considering putting them on my Harley until I read somewhere that they are not recommended for bikes with ABS. Not sure what one has to do with the other. I'm going to ask the dealer about that.

I never liked the looks, but they grew on me, just like the batwing grew on me. It is such a PITA to do on a Glide. I was considering going with a set of Wild One Chubbies. What bars are you looking at?

Those are it... Wild One Chubbies. Going with the 12.5 inch ones. That should put them just about even to the top of the fairing.

Nice, will you have to extend the cables with those? I think the 505's you don't have to. Make sure you get the ones that are for the TBW.

Yup.. got the TBW ones. Also bought the other control wire extender kit and a longer clutch and brake line. Got the bars today. Hoping the rest of the stuff gets here soon.

Rob - I hear all the hub-bub about the ABS brakes is that there's a "special" way to bleed them. Sounds all hokus pokus to me. fiv_oh did his with no problem, and there seems to be quite a few others who have also done it. I ain't skeered!!
